Mr Porter Behind The Scenes at ETRO – MILAN FASHION WEEK

If you’ve ever been shopping with me you’d know I have an unhealthy obsession with paisley print. I’m not sure whether it’s the intricacy of the design or the fact that it’s history lies in India. Either way you’ll always find me stopping to take a second glance at anything that resembles that pattern. So when I was told by Mr Porter we’d be given the chance to interview Mr Kean Etro I was thrilled. Those whom are familiar with the designer / brand know that he is a keen enthusiast of colour, pattern and paisley in particular.

So right now I’m in MILAN blogging from the Principe di Savoi (to give you some context Amir Khan and Jo Jonas are current staying in this hotel right now). Anyhow – I’ve been flown out by Mr Porter to film and edit videos of all the shows we are attending. The turn around for these have to be super quick – something I’ve never had to to before but exciting all the same. Yesterday we checked out the Burberry show. Mr Porter Style Help App

If you’ve been following us from day one you’d know that everything we post up has been 100% organic and honest. We have never produced shoots or written about a brand or item unless we genuinely liked it.

So, before you go and think this is a biased post please understand that we have and will continue, to deliver content with those same ethics in mind.

Ahhh now that’s out of the way I can get to it.

The Mr Porter App has just been released and it’s DOPE! In a nutshell it’s a content based app that pushes all the journal and editorial content on the website into easy, digestible pieces in mobile form.

Now here are a few reasons why I think it’s so great!

1. Before I started working at Mr Porter I thought their editorial content was one, if not the best content on menswear out there. The branding the information, writing, were all on point – it had it all and those that have been on the site would and should agree.

2. Now that I’m part of that editorial team, I know how good it is from a first hand perspective.

3. I’ve seen the mobile team at work on this app and how they’ve honed it to ensure it’s the best possible experience for its users.

4. It’s FREE!

Labrinth for ID Online teaser by Dexter Navy

Last week we got to style Labrinth for ID online and it’s fair to say that we were pretty excited as ID is one of the magazines that we regularly buy. The shoot was one of the most creative we have been on in terms of set, they used coloured smoke cascading out of briefcases, trunks, even just in the air, to create such interesting visuals. We really appreciate when the other aspects of the shoot are as thought about as the outfits we choose for Labrinth. It really helps the creative as a whole pull together! Colour has become our specialty especially when it comes to Labrinth, however, for this shoot we decided to work with darker tones to compliment and highlight the colour in the shot from the smoke. Luckily, Labrinth has a great skin tone that can carry most colours, light or dark. It is really important to consider your complexion when picking colour ways within an outfit; an ill suited outfit can usually be corrected with a sweet colour change.

Enough tips, back to the fact at hand. Lol!

For this shoot we called upon our boys over at House of Billiam. We are HUGE fans of the boys and all they have done with the brand! They have really built something that speaks to the young style-conscious man, especially with the release of their brand new collection of suits. Once we had seen them it was naturally a no brainer as to what Labrinth would wear for this shoot! Not only does the design speak volumes in terms of the future of the men’s lounge suit, but it also pulls on our values regarding fit and quality. We teamed this bad boy suit with a pair of our favourite Gant shoes and this brown and orange (aka borange) shoe really set off the dulcet tones in the suit and was the bridge between the dark outfit and bright set props.

Overall we had a freakin blast on set as we always do with our Labrinth… and how selfish would we be to not share it with you guys?! Here’s a taster produced by the shoots photographer- Dexter Navy. Please, good sirs, enjoy!

Those close to me know that over the past few months there have been many changes going on in my life, one of the biggest and most positive being my new job.

Today marks my first month working for Mr Porter as their news video Style Editor and to say that it’s a dream job would be an understatement. It’s simply the most amazing and inspiring environment I’ve ever worked in and I’m honored to be working around such a talented world class team!

Anyhow…since I started in my new role I’ve been learning the ropes and have been working on many projects. But this is officially my first piece of work for them. A behind the scenes video for the ‘How To Look Good On A Bike’ feature! Enjoy!

Self came to being in 2007 and has gained quite a following in the ‘creative’ community. The brands’ foundations lie in Utilitarianism, garments with fuctionality.
