Now I have a little problem. A problem that affects many men out there. My ankles are as big as a Twiglet; come to think about it they actually look like a Twiglet, so when it comes to sandals, I momentarily hesitate. But after one look at this sneaker/sandal concoction, all that doubt and uncertainty flew straight out the window.

This suede sneaker from OTeZI3300 is sure to get people asking the question: ‘Just what they hell are they?’  This style is known as the OTZ-1. It has an internal stretch sock membrane that contours the foot for maximum comfort, warmth and breathability while its anti-microbial cork footbed is anatomically designed to promote a healthy posture.

It comes in a variety of colours but we feel that the sand-colourway provides most value for the average chaps wardrobe. The Velcro toe-strap is a design feature that really drew us in, plus the minimal branding is something that appealed to us even more. Subtle and stylish- just how we like it.

Now onto the look……

The look we created for the OTZ-1 was a very relaxed, casual one. Starting with the shoes, we made sure we didn’t wear socks- that’s a style sin almost as bad as string bag with suits and you know what we do to those folk!

We then paired it with a pair of light, stone-wash denim shorts. Tighten that up with a brown braided belt to keep things a little nautical.

Then we went for a little light layering; a white T-shirt provides a perfect base for coloured V-necks, so we dropped a forest green sweater on top and threw a casual twill shirt in an oatmeal to help compliment the sand sneakers.

Finally we rolled the shorts up, as well as the sleeves of the shirt and sweater. A loose fitting shirt keeps it looking casual and the earth tone colour palette  of greens and tans fuse the look together.

This first picture is of something I spotted whilst in Traid. For the uninitiated, it’s basically a franchise of charity stores that specialise in clothing. They have a special section in which they stock customised designs from customers garments that have been recreated and turned into new dynamic designs. A prime example is this stylish blue gingham T-shirt pictured above!

The second picture comes courtesy from my good friend Jerome. I spotted him rocking the new Adidas Ransoms. Adidas haven’t always done it for me personally, yet I feel they’re on to a winner with this series; tTouching on the shoe/trainer hybrid trend is a step in the right direction.

BAD LOOK

If you follow us here at Individualism, you’ll know that we have a personal vendetta against London Transport. Apart from being as reliable as Titus Bramble in defence, it seems to consistantly smell of satans ass, house the most uncomfortable seats since the Roman times and only ever transports teenagers with a desire to blast their shit music for all to hear.

But last week I was subjected to even more torture. These patent Rumpelstiltskin-style shoes were so vile they’d neutralise Medusa! And rocking them with brilliant white trousers is probably an even regrettable sin.

I wanted to punch this mannequin in the face for looking so cool and calm while wearing Ed Hardy. The fact that it was displaying three Ed Hardy pieces was enough for to make my eyes bleed. I should have used those chains to strangle the smug mannequin.

So enough of my self-convincing and onto this week’s lessons…

GOOD LOOK

This week we went into the National Geographic store on Regent Street! Yeah, don’t ask why but we did. Upon arrival, we  found that, apart from being a decent time waster, it’s actually a great mini-menswear store. Their range of quality, classic shoes are a prime examples; all different shades of brown yet all timelessly stylish. Loafers, desert boots and Oxford shoes… who can argue with that?

Last week I had a clear out (an essential task for any stylish man) and without fail, just like every time I do this, there was one bastard item that I felt I couldn’t get rid of despite me not using it for about three years.

This time it was a pair of golf shoes by Adidas that I purchased during my uni years. They’re certainly a statement piece because the next day I wore them, I got mad compliments. I love the baroque (brogue style) pattern. Admittedly, they’re not to everyone’s taste but it’s certainly a good look for me.

BAD LOOK

I personally feel it’s HARD to get your footwear wrong, but 99% of the people on my tube prove me wrong each and every day. The first picture shows a gentleman wearing a pair of dress shoes with cargo pants.

Firstly the trousers are too baggy for the shoes; flooding over the footwear is never a good thing  and it’s a sure-fire way of showing that you need to change things up. Secondly, cargo pants are a causal item and should NEVER be rocked with dress shoes. It’s almost as horrid a sight as this guy.

The second picture is an all too common sight in my life. These square style slip on horrors look as good as my father in a thong. EXACTLY a hellish sight! Probably picked up from Shoe Express (if it still exists?)

Now I’m not saying cheap shoes are bad (though with shoes you do pair for quality especially when dealing with leather ) but it’s the style.You need to avoid these like an encounter with a West Ham fan after a home loss. Stick with a classic style.

We don’t really do sportswear here at Individualism and to be honest, we’re not too sure why. Maybe it’s because it’s hardly the most elegant category in menswear or maybe it’s because wearing a hoody in East London doesn’t hold the most positive connotations. But like Will Smith’s lyrical masterpiece, we thought we’d switch it up.

This week’s ‘P.O.T.W’ comes from US brand Apolis Activism. The brand are famous for their red stitched cross which means:  ’The sign of relief and an icon for all global citizens committed to quality and change. Apolis Activism applies contemporary design, premium fabrics, and an opportunity to share the value of Trade.’

Their ideals are certainly apparent in this modish navy hooded pullover. Boasting a French twill contrast placket and pocket trim as well as natural Caruso buttons carved from Tagua Nuts (I know it sounds like some sort of India Jones relic), this piece is ticks all the right boxes.
