This was shot as a pilot for a regular video feature called Staff Talk. The idea of which see’s us interviewing staff of interesting menswear stores around the UK about both the store and the culture of the local area.

In this episode we sit down with Fabian Nordström. As I stated before it is a pilot so please leave your feedback. If you guys enjoy it we’ll then know to continue the series.

Wowsers!! We’ve arrived at Week 33 now and time sure is flying by; summer is practically on our doorstep and we’re almost halfway through the year too.

I know I always go on about the weather but it is a big deal if you’re wearing, say leathers, suede or even curtain hats in the rain…!

That’s definitely not a good look so fingers crossed we can keep the bad weather at bay and enjoy a prolonged and scorching summer.

Here’s what you gotta do if you wanna show some skin:

If you’ve got your top half fully covered then why not don a pair of shorts… perhaps a knee-length belted short in a khaki colour way.

Being a neutral colour, these are a winner for most. And if you plan on covering your bottom half, grab yourself a light grey crew neck tee. Wardrobe staples like this can make an outfit look so dope when you throw a Bradstone jacket over your shoulders.

So without any further ado, here is our our Top 5 Denim Brands

1. LEVIS

Denim is Levi’s birthright; they created the damn thing so if anyone knows how to produce a good pair of jeans, it’s these guys! As a brand they’ve never rested on their laurels. Levi’s is always looking to push the boundaries of what they can achieve with the fabric and what the idea of denim is. My trip to their San Francisco HQ and meeting all the team has reassured me that the brand is in good hands!

2. NUDIE – Chosen by Rob Wesley

Nudie Jeans is a solid denim brand. Accordining to their website: “The philosophy of Nudie Jeans is to become part of your dreams’. Jeans have a natural built-in dream and attitude.

That may sound a little extreme but if you’ve ever tried on a pair, you’ll know that these jeans are a labour of love for this brand.

Founded by Maria Erixsson, Nudie is a Swedish brand that has gone from strength-to-strength.

Our recent visit to Stockholm (Nudie was founded in Gothenburg, we know) made us realise what a stylish nation it is. Again, you’re in good hands with these guys.

3. UNIQLO – Chosen by Pete Fallan

I’ve always said Uniqlo has the best price-quality ratio on the high street and they deliver on the denim front too. They even provide great value Selvedge denim. For anyone who’s on a budget, Uniqlo are pretty hard to beat!

4. A.P.C. – Chosen by Tom Videlo

A.P.C. stands for ‘Atelier de Production et de Création’, and if you haven’t guessed already, it’s a French brand. One for the minimalist – they’re known for their quality and quick fading Selvedge denim.

APC is a brand that doesn’t focus on branding but more on its slim fit, minimalist designs.

5. EDWIN

Edwin is a Japanese denim brand that was founded in 1947.  ”An authentic denim brand priding itself on innovation and craftsmanship, utilising exclusive fabrics and fabrication, unique technology, hand wash processes, and continual progression in design and fit.”

Originally importers of American work wear, they started producing Edwin (the name derives from the word ‘denim’ being re-arranged) jeans in 1963 using original American looms to create their now famous ‘rainbow’ selvage.

A quick search online reveals the brand being involved in all respected online boutiques. 

Edwin jeans are a highly revered brand in the denim game!

I thought I’d explain a little more, but then I discovered the website description couldn’t be re-worded any better, so thanks to copy and paste here it is: “This 100% wool sweater is trimmed with oil treated 100% cotton tin cloth.

Made from English bridal leather and christened with a majestic Hook Loop, each belt is hand-crafted and goes through a detailed 15-step process ranging from cutting and sizing to burnishing and stitching.

The brand was founded in 1999 by two brothers. Raised in rural Virginia, these passionate siblings grew a deep appreciation  for English Bridle leather from their daily interaction of the fabric on their Horse Farm. So what better backdrop to shoot this week’s P.O.T.W. than London’s very own Camden Lock.

A product that is timeless, gets better with age and has a deep British heritage… what more could you ask for? Oh how to style it? We’ve got that covered…

The belt draws so much attention to itself that the styling was based around it. The bottle green and gold buckle draw your eyes to it, so we placed it over a neutral pair of shorts- this one being a khaki/grey. We then highlighted the green with these green leather low cuts.

A red chambray shirt with a patterned pocket square adds some colour to the fit, while a pair of tortoise shell wayfarers are used to complete the look.

The timeless tan colour can go with almost anything. Here we paired it with some classic blue jeans. A vintage knitted zippy with cable knit detailing over a blue shirt finishes this rather simple yet casual look.
