WATCH

A watch is simply one of the most timeless accessories a man could own. Despite our advances in technology, the classic dial timepiece still looks as chic and elegant as it did 100 years ago!

SCARF – Chosen by Jas Purewal

A great choice from Jas. A scarf is an item that can cost next to nothing yet provide a wealth of looks to an outfit. There are dozens of ways in which to tie one but the really great thing about them is they don’t need to be restricted to being simply worn around the neck.

Whether you’re using them to layer, wrap or tie, the scarf is most definitely a staple accessory for any man that considers himself stylish!

BELT – Chosen by Gavin Ganatra

It’s simple really: If you’re wearing a pair of trousers then you should be wearing a belt too. The fabrics and colours that you choose had can add some spice into your outfit.

But the sheer functionality of them should be a reason for purchase alone. ‘Low battys’ have never been a look good outside of the prison walls!

POCKET SQAURE

Simple, timeless and a great alternative to a tie, you can ‘chuck-em’ in or fold them perfectly. Like the scarf you can show your personality through the colours and patterns you choose.

But why restrict yourself to what the stores stock? Got a nice piece of fabric? Seen an old shirt than you like the pattern of? Well you all know how to use a pair of scissors don’t you? So what are you waiting for……go make one!

BAG

Bulging pockets are about as attractive as this guy! My solution is simple: carry a bag. It not only frees up your pockets but it adds another dimension to your outfit. From holdalls to rucksacks, the styles available to guys nowadays is amazing.

We are truly spoilt for choice!

I bring to you “The Look” Harris Tweed Edition Part 2.

This time in a brown check with a vintage denim shirt, a vintage maroon scarf, camel chinos and brown moccasin boots.

That day was absolutely freezing, I couldn’t feel my hands it was that cold, I don’t know if you guys can tell lol but I have to say my body was kept really warm in that lovely tweed jacket. Made from 100% hand woven wool, this definitely is a must have.

When you first saw Justin, he was probably in the group *NSync. Oh my God, he looked horrible! Sorry to say that, but it wasn’t a good look (see picture – flip flops and jeans? A distinct NO NO!)

Nowadays he looks rather dapper – think smart with an urban twist. He shaved off his curly locks, which look so much better. Don’t get me wrong, I like Justin’s style (sometimes) BUT…yeah, there is a BUT, I think his stylist does most of the job. It suits him though, but don’t give him credit for it :p

What he does well:

Justin knows how to rock the smart look – a fitted blazer, crisp shirt and a tie - and he effortlessly styles it up with a contemporary urban edge by wearing trainers or designer shoes that masquerade as sneakers. In the past, Justin’s been known to wear an array of hats; he managed to pull the majority of them off, but I prefer him without them.

What to learn from Justin:

First of all, don’t wear flip flops with jeans! (Ideally, don’t wear flip flops at all unless you are in Hawaii and on the beach). Mixing smart with urban is a good look - but you need to do it properly; you can’t be rocking a tracksuit with a pair of shoes!

Stay Stylish but be comfortable

This guys style varies a lot and he’s known for his unconventional hippie style (probably takes his wardrobe from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean!’ home with him)  A handsome man that also looks impeccable in a suit yet he tends to stick to large hats and glasses.

Don’t get me wrong though, I get the “ruff” look he is going for, but sometimes he just looks down right filthy - like those guys that have an unusual amount of free seats around them on the underground.

He probably needs to cut his hair and a shave too but other than that his style is very relaxed and chilled out. But please JD, look clean once in a while, it can’t hurt.

What he does well

JD knows how to rock jewellery and still look masculine. He has a unique way of putting together random items and working them into his whole ensemble.

What you can learn

Throw in a few random pieces of men’s jewellery and don’t be afraid to accessorise. Just make sure you’re not mistaken for a bum. Being a bum is not a good look.

So FRESH n’ so clean, clean!

We are now in the month of November and it’s starting to get a little chilly.

Thicken up with a navy wool overcoat and a smart shirt to go with some rust-coloured or grey tweed bottoms.

GOOD LOOK

TK MAXX is like that person in primary school who had the ‘LERGIES’. However hard they seemed to try and alter their perception they were always that person who ‘had the lergies’. I won’t name names myself (Facebook can lead to some really awkward situations which I won’t go into today) but it’s that shop that people love to laugh at and even we are guilty of it.

But if you look hard enough you can find a few good pieces, like this pair of classic brogues – a timeless staple at a sinfully cheap price. Just as well as TK MAXX have now launched their first store in West End.

Now who’s got the Lergies?…Beatrice still does unfortunately (Inside joke).

BAD LOOK

Chest hair is bad enough, but leaving four buttons undone is just plain EVIL! Have a wild guess why no-one’s sitting next to him?

Finally, I just have three words to say here.

The first is ‘shirt.’

The second is ‘pants’.

The third anyone? Yes, FAIL!

Summer is finally beginning to play ball. So the question that remains is what do you wear out when you’re not too keen on shorts?

A pair of chinos. That’s what.

Chinos should be part of every stylish gents wardrobe; they can be dressed up or down and depending on your outfit, they can be rolled up or down.

They’re are THE trouser choice for the summer, providing a light alternative to jeans, whilst being just as versatile. Whether you’re pairing them with trainers or shoes, chinos have just as much flexibility.

Now onto the styling…

We kept this look very light but formal. Starting with a pinstripe contrasting collar, we dropped in a navy/white polka-dot scarf. We intentionally tucked it in halfway down the shirt to show of its timeless pattern.

A vintage Tie Bar helps secure the scarf down while adding another focal point to the outfit. A grey dress belt with gold buckle breaks up the colours.

Fullcircle’s light blue chinos are rolled up, edging it towards a more casual look. Its neutral colourway keeps everything fresh and understated and we used a pair of white deck shoes to crown off the look.

Either way we’ve covered our backs, because this piece is from ANDTIE’s new spring/summer collection.

This scarf/tie accessory is a hybrid of exactly those two things and the name ANDTIE couldn’t work better. It’s perfect for the average London gent this time of the year; a great unique-looking accessory that combines the classic shape of a tie whilst packing all the warmth of a scarf.

Dropping in a variety of classic patterns and shades, we singled out this red and white tartan example, as it seems to hold just the right balance of colour to stand out and give your outfit a little punch, but not enough for you to fall into the Hoxton plaid look.

Here’s the break down of the look…

We began pairing the scarf with a deep indigo denim shirt. The richness of the blue provides a great backdrop for the colour within the scarf to really stand out. We then matched and highlighted the red in the scarf with a pair of red chino shorts.

We broke that up with a classic grey dress belt with a gold buckle and finished the look off with a pair of white boat shoes. The overall look is very simple and elegant. It’s easy to pull off and even easier to put on.

The trickiest part of the whole outfit is making sure you get the length of the tie/scarf right. If it’s too long, it’ll sway back and forth. Too short and you’ll look like an east London school kid.
