Not long after Iarrived, the man himself joined us.

He was kind enough to talk me through the pieces he designed, the inspiration behind the collection being tailoring of the 1930′s; traditional with influences of the boating culture.

So as we enter a new decade, let’s really take it seriously. We’ve put together a list of five ways in which you can consistently upgrade your style this year. That will make a lasting change.

1. Find a local tailor

Finding your correct fit is one of the most important aspects when improving your style. Getting a tailor will allow you to wear all those items that have a slight ill-fit and help take them to that perfect, bespoke look.

Tailors are especially useful when it comes to mending or altering vintage garments. Check out your local Yellow Pages or just use the most popular search engine on earth to help you discover your nearest tailor.

2. Invest in good hangers

One part of looking stylish is being able to maintain your clothes. Especially in hard times like these, it’s even more important that we invest in quality and take care of our purchases in order to prolong their life. However, an area that is often overlooked when concerning garment maintenance is the hangers you use. Nothing kills a suit or a piece of knitwear more than a smashed ‘back-of your- granddads-closet’ wire hanger. All good department stores will stock a good variety.

3. Join us for a Style Speed Seminar

In time for this new decade, we have planned a series of Style Speed Seminars, designed to provide you with the most inspirational and extraordinary style coaching content seen in London.

We all know what we men are like; we want short, inspiring, fun and educational content. So that’s exactly what we’ve done. We’ll be giving you physical and visual examples and for those of you who really wanna get the most out of it, we’ll be asking you to try your hands at some of the styles and techniques we teach.

Our first seminar will be on Scarves, teaching you about different types, ways to wear and how style them. We’ll also look at how to layer them and use colour to stand out and make an impact.

Plus there’ll be pocket-sized work booklets available for those who want a personalised permanent reference point, which, over the course of the year, will provide you with your own personal style manual.

So come join us in what’s going to be a new style revolution. Join the mailing list or facebook group to be kept update on seminar dates.

4. Follow Street Style Blogs

Street style blogs are a great way of tapping into global style culture. Photographers all around the world are capturing and documenting THE most stylish people on the street.

Spend a few minutes everyday browsing your favorite blogs; it’s the little time that you invest which will prove to be a tremendous source of inspiration and will fire up your creativity. Just promise us you don’t fire it up too much. There are some people who are beyond help.

5. Get yourself measured

Getting yourself measured is as important to a stylish man as lying to ones self is to this man. Find your nearest tailor, or if you’re that lazy, at least get your chest and neck size measured.

The trustworthy shirt maker, TM Lewin, will do this if you purchase a shirt from them and ask to get it tailored (which is always a must as it’s only an extra £10), plus you can’t go wrong with their quality shirts now selling at lower prices.

Waistcoats are tricky things. There are three main problems with finding a good waistcoat.

1. Like Where’s Wally, they’re pretty difficult to find. Lazy shopping results in granddad style purchases from Marks and Spencers. As good a choice as choosing Soulja Boy on your iPhone playlist.

2. When you do find a place that stocks them, they’re usually found in your basic colours; grey and black, leading onto the second problem. Attempting to look chic yet avoiding that WAITER look.

3. If you have managed to find a decent, non-garcon looking waistcoat, it’s more than likely going to be found in a vintage store. The only problem here is that who ever seemed to be manufacturing the waistcoats in vintage times seemed to have this guy as their model client.

You’d think it would be impossible to find a good-fitting, distinctive-looking, smart waistcoat right? WRONG. This weeks ‘P.O.T.W’. shows that a quick browse online can reveal some absolute gems.

This week’s ‘Product of the Week’ comes from asos.com, and for those of you that haven’t heard of this site, I suggest you give up now. Give up on life.

This acclaimed online fashion store stands for ‘As Seen on Screen’ and the site sells garments and sophisticated replicas that have been seen on TV and Film. I’m not sure where they found this waistcoat, but it really has that exclusive, celebrity feel to it.

Here we have a grey, shiny cotton waistcoat by Junk De Luxe; its grey colour falls into the neutral palette, which is great news for the lazy or busy man! It can go with a lot of colours and so less thought can be put into the outfit. As shown above, it works well with white T-shirts underneath and both V-neck and crew necks will do the job.

Unlike average waistcoats, this dime boasts tuxedo lapels and extra pocket detailing, which are responsible for its casual yet dressy feel. Throw a shirt under the waistcoat and you could work it with jeans or even shorts. Pick it up here.
